The Herberton Mining Museum also has a store which offers a range of mining themed products to make a selection from, as mementos or gifts. We have books on local history for sale including ‘Back o’ Cairns’ by Ion Idriess (his mine, the Southerner, was on the Deep Lead at Wondecla) and ‘North Queensland Deserted Towns Herberton-Mt Garnet’ by Colin Hooper. Souvenirs include: postcards, tea towels, stubby coolers, local pottery, rock samples, locally made pewter jewellery and pewter figurines. The pewter Australian animals are really cute and, of course, mainly composed of tin with a little copper and antimony – all metals found on the Herberton Tin Field. The jewellery collection, which includes earrings, pendants and more, is hand-crafted from 100% lead free Australian pewter at the Tarzali Pewter Mill. Our focus when selecting stock for the shop is to support local arts and crafts people and authors.
